As part of a sweeping Getty Villa exhibition, Persia: Ancient Iran and the Classical World, we partnered with Getty to create an immersive WebGL experience and an immersive 360° film that transport visitors to Persepolis, the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire.

Persepolis Reimagined sought to bring the rich heritage of ancient Iran to a worldwide audience, using modern technology to bring the past to life with never-before-seen historical accuracy. Persepolis Reimagined also aimed to give the Iranian community and diaspora the opportunity to walk in the steps of their ancestors and see the Persian Empire’s achievements up close.

The WebGL experience has won FWA Site of the Year and the FWA People’s Choice Award for 2022.

The immersive 360° film could be experienced in person at The Getty Villa from April to August 2022. A 16:9 version of the immersive film can be viewed below.
